POSTPARTUM SUPPORT DOULA

Nurturing, practical & lactation-informed support in the early weeks after birth

The weeks after birth are a major transition—physically, emotionally, and practically. Postpartum support is about creating space for recovery, rest, and confidence while you adjust to life with your baby.

I offer flexible, in-home postpartum support that can begin during pregnancy and continue through the first 6 weeks after birth. Sessions are shaped around what feels most supportive on the day, with a calm, steady presence to help you feel grounded, cared for, and capable.

What postpartum support can include

Every family’s needs are different. Sessions may include any combination of the following:

Emotional support

  • A supportive, non-judgmental presence

  • Space to talk through your birth experience (if and when you want)

  • Support through emotional adjustment, overwhelm, and the transition into parenthood

Newborn & feeding support

  • Hands-on guidance with newborn care (soothing, cues, diapering, bathing)

  • Lactation-informed feeding support during real feeds in your home

  • Help with latch, positioning, milk supply concerns, nipple pain, pumping questions, and feeding rhythms

  • Support for breastfeeding, combination feeding, or bottle feeding—without pressure

Recovery & nourishment

  • Encouragement for rest, hydration, and realistic pacing

  • Supportive comfort measures and gentle recovery routines

  • Simple, nourishing postpartum meals or snacks

Practical home support

  • Light household reset (dishes, kitchen tidy, laundry started/folded)

  • Setting up feeding and recovery stations

  • Small errands as needed

Support for the whole household

  • Help with older siblings

  • Support with pets and household flow so you can focus on healing and bonding

Resources & referrals

  • Thoughtful referrals when additional support is needed (pelvic floor therapy, mental health support, bodywork, infant specialists, etc.)

Lactation support as part of postpartum care

Feeding questions often arise alongside recovery, sleep deprivation, and emotional adjustment. Because of this, lactation support is naturally integrated into postpartum sessions, rather than treated as something separate.

This allows for:

  • Unhurried observation of full feeds in your home

  • Early support for common feeding challenges before they escalate

  • Practical guidance that fits your daily routine

  • Continuity of care as feeding needs change over the first weeks

If a full clinical lactation consultation is needed, this can be incorporated seamlessly or scheduled separately.

Creating a postpartum plan

Many families aren’t sure how much support they’ll want—and that’s completely normal. Together, we can create a postpartum plan that feels supportive, flexible, and responsive as your needs evolve.

Common rhythms include:

  • A prenatal planning session

  • 2–3 visits per week in the early days

  • Gradual tapering as confidence grows

What postpartum support is — and isn’t

  • This service complements (but does not replace) medical care from your midwife or GP

  • Light household support is included; deep cleaning is not

  • Emotional support is offered, with referrals made promptly if more specialized care is needed
